Our Impact

Our Impact

2024 was our first year supporting students as ELE. It was a year where more students than ever were being permanently excluded from schools and capacity in the city was at an all-time low. During this time ELE played a vital role, and we are incredibly proud of the impact we made.

Now as always, ELE remains committed to supporting the young people who need us most. We are determined to support as many young people as possible to gain the confidence, skills and accreditations they need in order to succeed in their adult life.

2024 IMPACT STATEMENT

Over the past year, we have supported 30 students from across the city, most of whom attended for 2–3 days per week over a minimum 12-week period. Notably, 50% of these students had been permanently excluded from school and, due to capacity issues at Sheffield Inclusion Centre (SIC), were left without placements.

Of these students:

● 2 have successfully reintegrated into mainstream education,

● 5 secured places at SIC,

● 6 were Year 11 students who remained with us through the academic year and have now progressed to college placements across Sheffield.

In total, 17 students achieved accredited qualifications, including:

● (12) Functional Skills in Maths and English (both),

● (3) Level 1 Health & Safety in Construction Environments,

● (10) Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work.

We also enriched students’ learning with career-focused experiences, providing:

● Access to meaningful post-16 education and employer engagement including visits to Sheffield college city campus, olive grove and Hillsborough campus, Nacro Education, and Morthyng college

● Support with all college applications for Year 11s including writing personal statements and support in attending interviews and application tracking - all year 11s gained college places

● Workplace visits and guest talks including LoadHog, Gripple, Cubanas, Glide House, Navy, Army, Police, Fortem, Keltbray, Simon Meadows (bricklayer), sector safari, careers fairs

● Hands-on vocational workshops in bricklaying, vehicle and electrical maintenance, and plumbing,

● 5 students successfully completed long-term work experience placements (one day per week) with local businesses.
